Plantation Police

Citizen Outreach

Citizen Police Academy: This 13-week program will give you first hand knowledge of the inner workings of the Plantation Police Department. You'll see a K-9 demonstration, participate in our firearms range, process a crime scene, learn about citizen safety and meet Plantation's own SWAT team. Participation is free; refreshments are served. Attendance to every class is not mandatory, and may be made up in another session. Please call for more information on the next session.

Women's Self Defense: This two-hour class teaches women the basics of self defense, from options in a situation to risk reduction. This program not only teaches you how to reduce your exposure to violence, but also provides an introduction to actual physical self defense moves. This class is free, but space is limited. Call the Outreach Center for class schedules.

Mature Drivers Course - Coaching the Mature Driver: Have a ticket? Want a reduction in your insurance? Or do you just need a refresher course in basic defensive driving? This class is geared toward the senior community to accomplish all three goals. The cost for the one-time, all day session is $12.00. Classes are held on the 4th Tuesday of every month.

Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.): This worthwhile organization for people 50 years of age or older not only performs many service projects for the City of Plantation, but is very active and social, too. Want to have fun meeting other seniors and do some good for your community? Then come to the S.A.L.T. meetings! There is no membership fee and we meet every 3rd Thursday of the month. A free breakfast is served at 9 a.m., with the meeting from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Gun Lock Safety Class: This hour-long class will teach you about the different types of guns and locks on the market today, as well as how to keep your family and friends safe. As you leave, you will receive gun-locks for every weapon you own. Please do not bring any weapons to this class.

Nixle.com: If you would like to receive immediate updates on police department and city activities electronically then subscribe to Nixle at Nixle.com. You will be notified on your cellular phone, email or PDA with information concerning emergency matters such as missing persons, crime issues, road closures, water main breaks, intersection closures due to serious accidents, etc.
